How to cancel ChatGPT or OpenAI API billing

OpenAI billing can mean two different things: a ChatGPT subscription or API usage billing. Cancel the one that matches your charge.

Cancel a ChatGPT subscription on the web

  1. Log in to ChatGPT.
  2. Open your profile menu and go to settings.
  3. Open the billing area.
  4. Use Manage plan and choose Cancel subscription.
  5. Confirm the cancellation and keep the confirmation email.

Cancel ChatGPT from a mobile store

If you subscribed through Apple or Google Play, manage the subscription in that store account. On Android, OpenAI says to open Google Play, check the correct Google account, go to subscriptions, select ChatGPT, and cancel.

Stop OpenAI API pay-as-you-go billing

  1. Open the OpenAI API platform billing overview.
  2. Choose Cancel plan.
  3. Expect a final invoice for usage already incurred during the current billing month.
